This course is the perfect starting point for those wanting to learn the art of quilt making or for those who would like to refresh their skills. In this beginner’s class you will learn all the steps involved. We will cover basic machine use, choosing fabrics and threads, sewing an accurate 1/4" seam, machine piecing, how to use a rotary cutter, sewing on borders, methods to finish a quilt, making and applying binding...and much more. There will be mini demos on other techniques (such as paper piecing, machine appliqué, etc) if time permits.
You will make a sampler block quilt top (see diagram), size approximately 40” x 54”, perfect for a crib or lap quilt. Blocks will range from very basic to more complex in design. No experience necessary, open to those 15 years of age or older. Everyone must bring their own sewing machine in good working order and basic sewing supplies, including your sewing machine manual if possible. Rotary cutting tools will be available in class to use.
