Quilt Preparation

Preparation for machine quilting:

To ensure your quilt will look as fabulous as possible and cost less, please follow these simple guidelines:

1) No need to baste your quilt layers, fold carefully and bring/ship to my studio.

2) Be sure the borders are flat and "squared".

3) Stay stitch the outside edge of your quilt to provide stability, especially if you have many seams on the outside border.  Staystitch 1/8" from the edge.

4) Check your top for open or missed seams.

5) Clip loose threads from both sides of quilt top and from backing.

6) Quilt top should be pressed, clean and free of offensive odours and all seams should lie flat.

7) Backing must measure at least 5" wider on all sides than quilt top.  Backing must also be "squared" and wrinkle free.

8) Remove all selvages from pieced backings, use at least 1/2" seam allowance and press open.

9) If you provide the batting, it must measure at least 4 1/2" wider on all sides than quilt top.  Some batts are not suitable for longarms, call or email me to see if the batt you have is suitable.

10) Identify the top of your quilt and backing a with safety pin or piece of tape clearly marking "top".
